Overview

1K Women Strong Inc. seeks a dynamic and courageous Communications Director’s (CD) to join the leadership team and help guide the mission of the organization which is to empower Black women across the country to reclaim their political strength and mobilize them for action. The CD reports directly to the Executive Director and the Chief Program Officer in strategizing, managing, implementing and executing the internal and external communications of the organization.

The CD works to build and sustain 1K Women Strong Inc.'s brand reputation for quality, reliability, and successful issues, advocacy and political campaigns. The CD possesses excellent organizational and prioritization skills, written and oral communication skills, and a willingness to collaborate and be a team player. This position is expected to model and uphold the vision, mission and core values of the organization.

Responsibilities
  • Work with the Executive Director and the Chief Program Officer to develop, implement and evaluate a communication plan that is in sync with the goals of the organization and the departments.
  • Develop and manage the comms calendar and assist with establishing standard communications processes across the organization with other departments.
  • Participate in campaign framing and messaging, including collaborating on talking points, press releases, reports, social media, and other communications materials as necessary.
  • Collaborate with other departments as deemed necessary to ensure a consistent and quality message in all arenas.
  • Prepare/ready the team for public events and conferences.
  • Ensure national, state and local press coverage in designated areas.
  • Research and share appropriate stories and information related to Black women resources, topics and trending news.
  • Draft and post the daily/periodic writing of internal and external communications such as editorials, blogs, op-eds, newsletters, flyers, etc. to advance the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Coordinate webpage maintenance, ensuring that new and consistent information is posted regularly.
  • Manage the organization's email contact list.
  • Manage all media contacts.
  • Manage the Social Media Manager to create, design and manage social media marketing; assist with social media campaigns and overall brand awareness utilizing monthly social media content calendar; create social media graphics, videos, e-newsletters, etc.; increase engagement on social media platforms each month to measure digital performance; assist with paid social media digital marketing campaigns.
  • Develop and implement the regular tagging, queuing, profiling, and monitoring dashboards within social media management tools and escalating potentially sensitive issues to the community management lead or client representative.
