Door and Frame Welder

Openwork is currently engaged in a search to find a Metal Door & Frame Welder in Atlanta, GA. In this contract to hire role you will be focusing specifically on the assembly, welding, and finishing of commercial-grade steel doors and frames. Apply today if you meet the qualifications listed below.

• Precision Welding: Perform high-quality MIG welding on 14, 16, and 18-gauge cold-rolled and galvanized steel.
• Assembly & Fitting: Square and tack-weld three-sided door frames (jambs), transoms, and sidelites according to shop drawings.
• Component Installation: Weld and prep reinforcements for hardware including hinges, strikes, closers, and exit devices.
• Finishing: Grind, sand, and polish welds to a seamless, "paint-ready" finish without compromising the structural integrity of the metal.
• Quality Control: Ensure all products meet SDI (Steel Door Institute) or HMMA (Hollow Metal Manufacturers Association) standards for squareness and tolerances.

• Hollow Metal Expertise: Minimum of [Insert Number] years of experience specifically in a hollow metal shop environment.
• Technical Proficiency: Strong MIG welding skills on thin-gauge sheet metal (preventing warp and burn-through).
• Blueprint Reading: Ability to interpret architectural drawings, shop tickets, and hardware schedules.
• Tool Mastery: Experience with grinders, sanders, pneumatic tools, and measuring tapes (down to 1/32").
• Physical Stamina: Ability to lift and maneuver heavy steel frames and doors throughout the shift.

• Experience with STC (Sound Tech) or Lead-Lined door construction.
• Ability to perform "full profile" welds on frame corners.
• Knowledge of fire-rated labeling requirements (UL/WH).
