Maintenance Technician / Mechanic

Baldwin Paving Company, Inc. is currently seeking a Groundsman to join our team. This is a full‑time position based primarily out of our College Park, GA asphalt plant, which will serve as the employee’s home work location. This position reports to the Plant Manager.
While this role has a designated home plant, employees may be assigned to support other company asphalt plants within the Greater Atlanta area on an as‑needed basis, depending on operational demands.
This position requires flexibility in scheduling. Work schedules may include day or night shifts, long hours, and weekend work (including Saturdays and Sundays) as business needs require.
Employees must have reliable transportation and the ability to travel to assigned work locations when needed. Flexibility is required.
We are looking for a practical, dependable, and safety‑focused team member who can assist with the daily operations and upkeep of the plant, perform maintenance and equipment operation tasks, and help ensure a safe and efficient work environment. Essential functions include but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
SummaryThe individual shall perform various duties within an asphalt plant to ensure operations run smoothly. Maintains excellent housekeeping around the plant by shoveling, performs repairs as needed to plant equipment, and performs preventative maintenance to keep the plant running.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assist the plant foreperson with the daily operations and upkeep of the plant.
- Ability to access all areas of the plant to perform necessary maintenance and repairs. Perform welding and fabrication duties as required.
- Ability to operate a front‑end loader safely and efficiently to move materials such as aggregate, sand, and recycled asphalt within the plant yard or job site. Conduct pre‑operation inspections, report mechanical issues, and follow all safety protocols and site procedures.
- Ability to detect safety hazards and equipment malfunctions and respond accordingly.
- Ability to follow directions.
Display a professional and courteous attitude to co‑workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times. Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary. Report to the assigned job site in proper attire and ready to begin work at the designated start time. Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Safety Manual. Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co‑workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
PersonalProtective Equipment
Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA and company policy. Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position:
Coveralls, Fall Protection, Gloves, Welding Gloves, Hard Hat, Hearing Protection, Padlocks for Lockout/Tagout, Respiratory Protection, Safety Glasses, Safety (hard‑toe) Shoes, Welding Aprons, Welding Helmet, Welding Shield.
High School diploma or equivalent desired but not required.
Work EnvironmentWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving and mechanical parts and equipment.
The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
Employees will be exposed to dust and fumes from cleaners, gasoline, diesel, exhaust, etc.
Employees will work outdoors and will be exposed to the weather, including extremes in heat and cold, rain, etc.
Physical DemandsThe employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and requires manual dexterity and strength in arms and feet to manipulate equipment controls, tools, and other items used to make adjustments and/or minor maintenance.
Will use hands, arms, back, and shoulders to handle, install, position, move items, and manipulate other objects.
Could be in a standing, bending, kneeling, or sitting position for long periods of time.
