Zurich is hiring an AVP or VP-level Underwriting Manager to lead and develop a regional Excess & Surplus (E&S) Property underwriting team based in Atlanta or Chicago with hybrid work and ~25% travel. The role combines people management, portfolio performance (new business, retention, rate/tiering, profitable portfolio actions), wholesale broker relationship management, and maintaining a small production book while providing technical E&S property underwriting expertise.

Qualifications vary by level but require extensive commercial insurance/E&S property experience, management experience, strong broker engagement, and demonstrated portfolio and team leadership skills.

Zurich E&S is currently looking for an Underwriting Manager for our E&S Property team. This E&S Property Manager position will be responsible for developing, coaching, and managing a high-performing regional team of Property underwriting staff. Additional responsibilities include managing regional performance, including new business production, policy count retention, rate/tiering execution, and portfolio management actions relative to plan; managing regional wholesale broker relationships;

managing underwriter referrals; and maintaining a small production portfolio to stay attuned with regional market changes and desk-level challenges.

The E&S Property Manager position will be expected to travel as necessary to support the needs of the team and to cultivate key broker relationships within the specified regions (25%). The position is a critical role in driving a diversified, dynamic and engaging team culture. This position also requires strong technical acumen in underwriting property risks in the E&S segment, experience in overseeing and developing underwriting talent, the ability to manage complex processes, strong wholesale producer engagement and sales skills and a demonstrated ability of profitable portfolio management.

This position will be based out of our Atlanta or Chicago office, and you will have the flexibility to work on a hybrid basis. You will partner with your manager to set a flexible work schedule that supports you, our customers, and our brokers and agents.

This role will be filled at either an AVP Underwriting Manager or VP Senior Underwriting Manager level. The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based upon the selected applicant’s experience and skillset relative to the qualifications listed for this position.

AVP Level Basic Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area.
  OR
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 14 or more years of experience in the claims or Under Support area.
  OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate’s degree and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area.
  AND
• 2 or more years of management experience

OR

VP Level Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree and 10 or more years of experience in the Underwriting, Market Facing, Broker, Carrier, or Risk Management area within the Commercial Insurance industry
  OR
• Bachelor’s Degree with 20 or more years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support area within the Commercial Insurance industry
  AND
• Experience in E&S Property
• 2 or more years of people management experience
