Director, Payroll Position Summary
The Director of Payroll is responsible for overseeing payroll operations at Morehouse School of Medicine, ensuring timely and accurate payroll processing in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. This role involves managing payroll staff, optimizing payroll systems and processes, and collaborating with cross‑functional departments to support strategic financial initiatives.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage the payroll team, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback.
- Establish and monitor performanceربي حاجـ for payroll staff to ensure productivity, accuracy, and efficiency.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, encouraging professional growth.
- Oversee bi‑weekly, monthly, and special payroll runs, ensuring accurate and timely distribution.
- Ensure all payroll activities comply with internal policies and external regulations.
- Manage payroll records, ensuring accurate data entry, reporting, and tax filings.
- Handle complex payroll issues and resolve discrepancies.
- Evaluate and optimize payroll systems and procedures for efficiency and accuracy.
- Partner with IT to enhance payroll software functionality.
- Drive process improvements to streamline operations and reduce manual tasks.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws, wage and hour laws, and other payroll regulations.
- Prepare and analyze payroll‑related reports, providing insights to the CFO and senior management.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of year‑end reports (W‑2s, 1099s, and other required documents).

- Support budgeting and forecasting processes by providing payroll cost projections and data analysis.
- Participate in cross‑functional projects, offering payroll expertise and insight.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in payroll software (ADP, Workday) and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- At least 8 years of progressive payroll experience, including 3+ years in a leadership role.
- Extensive knowledge of payroll best practices, tax regulations, and compliance requirements.
- CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification is strongly preferred.
- Experience with payroll system implementation or upgrades is a plus.
