Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Summary
The Field Service Technician, Automation will install, commission, maintain and/or repair Ranpak Automation equipment at various customer locations while maximizing machine uptime and customer satisfaction. This role also supports administrative duties within the Service and Parts Department.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Fully accountable for completing work according to the service work order
- Support the Ranpak Tech Support Hotline when necessary
- Prioritize working safely at all times and abide by specific customer requirements
- Write detailed and accurate field service reports
- Submit field service reports and expenses in a timely manner
- Maintain communications with customers and Ranpak personnel about job progress
- Build and maintain professional relationships with customers
- Keep tools and other equipment (e.g., service van) in good condition
- Maintain a clean and tidy machine/working place when leaving the customer’s location
- Actively contribute to a professional and profitable service organization
- Perform other duties as assigned by manager
- Formal electrical/mechanical training from a university or technical school is preferred, or 4 years’ experience with industrial automation maintenance & troubleshooting
- Ability to travel within North America on short notice; up to 50‑70% travel expected
- Strong mechanical/electronic skills to analyze and resolve complex machinery problems
- Ability to understand and work with PLCs of different vendors (e.g., Siemens, Beckhoff)
- Logical and solution‑oriented thinking
- Self‑motivated, aspiring to improve technical knowledge and keep skills sharp
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings
- Good verbal & written communication
- Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems
- Highly focused on customer service and exceeding client expectations
- Above average use of computer applications like MS Office
- Flexible working hours to meet customer needs; occasional weekend and off‑shift hours

Physical Demands and Work EnvironmentOffice setting:
Choice of sitting, standing, or alternating between them (stand‑up desk optional). Keyboarding/typing on a computer for extended periods of time. Moderate noise from phones, printer, light foot traffic.
