Overview

Assistant Legal Advisor (Assistant General Counsel):
Office of Legal Affairs. Reporting directly to the Associate General Counsel, this position provides clear, practical legal counsel on a wide range of business and higher education matters, with primary responsibility for drafting and negotiating contracts, student matters, employment matters, and advancement/fundraising. The role also advises on employment law and policy development. Successful candidates will bring strong business judgment and creativity to the Office of Legal Affairs.

What You Will Do
  • Licensed to practice law or able to become licensed in the State of Georgia within one year of employment
  • Experience drafting and negotiating a variety of commercial contracts, including vendor agreements
  • Ability to think critically and make clear, well-reasoned and timely decisions
  • Strong, pragmatic business acumen with the ability to recognize the broader consequences of legal advice
  • Strategic and innovative thinker who can bring value to clients and find creative and practical solutions to complex problems
  • Self-motivated and exhibits a passion for understanding the University’s business and contributing in a meaningful way to its strategy and long-term strategic goals
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to communicate and interact effectively with senior leaders and clients at all levels of the organization; ability to identify critical issues requiring action and convey them in a manner that is useful to the client

  • Team player with the ability to build rapport with a diverse range of business and legal partners
  • Ability to manage multiple initiatives in a fast-paced, high-volume office
Minimum Hiring Qualifications

JD from an ABA-accredited law school and at least one year of relevant experience.
