Responsible for the representation of clients in immigration matters. An associate attorney will represent clients in both family-based immigration matters as well as immigration-related litigation before immigration courts, the Board of Immigration Appeals, and federal courts.
Essential Functions- Assess the eligibility of foreign nationals to file family-based immigration applications, applications for naturalization, and eligibility for relief before the immigration courts.
- Represent clients in presenting applications before USCIS at interviews.
- Supervise and review initial filings and RFE responses prepared by paralegals/legal assistants.
- Work directly with clients to advance cases through the various immigration processes.
- Supervise and review the work of paralegal staff.
- Train paralegal and support staff on immigration practice and procedure.
- Research immigration law and procedures.
- Prepare legal correspondence, memoranda, and legal briefs.
- Enter case information into computerized databases and case management systems.
- Track the status of filings and inform clients of any follow up that may be necessary.
- Maintain confidentiality of client information.
- Assist other firm attorneys in representing clients before immigration courts and USCIS.
- Assist with preparations and management of occasional business-related immigration applications.
- Prepare reports and spreadsheets as required.
- Other duties as required.
- J.D. or LL.M. degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Active and unrestricted license to practice law in at least one U.S. state.
- English language fluency with excellent interpersonal, communication (both oral and written), and problem‑solving skills.
- Spanish fluency.
- 2‑5 years of immigration or litigation experience.
- Outstanding organizational and time‑management skills.
- Ability to work effectively under strict time deadlines while handling significant case volumes.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment, with emphasis on ability to work within a team structure.
- Constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
- Occasionally need to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
- Must be able to lift 35 pounds.
