Complex Claims Consultant – Private D&O, Fiduciary & Employment Practice Liability
CNA Financial Lines invites an experienced Complex Claims Consultant to manage high severity claims in Private D&O, Fiduciary and Employment Practice Liability. The role will investigate claims, coordinate discovery, manage reserves, negotiate settlements and provide strategic guidance to leadership.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Manage an inventory of highly complex financial lines claims with large exposures, applying specialized technical expertise and coordination.
- Verify coverage, establish timely reserves and authorize disbursements within authority limits.
- Conduct focused investigations to determine compensability, liability and covered damages, gathering pertinent information and working with experts.
- Resolve claims by collaborating with internal and external partners to develop and execute resolution strategies, including complex settlements and litigation management.
- Establish and manage claim budgets, authorizing expense payments and delivering high‑quality service efficiently.
- Identify subrogation/salvage opportunities and potential fraud, making referrals to the appropriate claim recovery resources.
- Maintain quality standards by ensuring all protocols are followed, work is accurate, and claims are resolved and paid timely.
- Keep senior leadership informed of significant risks and losses through loss summaries and concise presentations.
- Mentor, develop and train less experienced claim professionals.
- In‑depth knowledge of the commercial insurance industry, products and claim practices.
- Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
- Analytical and investigative mindset with critical thinking and sound business decision‑making.
- Time‑management and organizational skills in a fast‑paced environment.
- Negotiation skill for complex settlements and interpretation of complex specialty insurance policies.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and use Microsoft Office and business‑related software.
- Value diverse opinions and ideas.
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience; JD preferred.
- Typically a minimum of five to seven years of relevant claim handling experience, preferably in complex claims.
CNA’s national base pay range for this role is $72,000 to $141,000 annually, based on experience. The company offers a comprehensive benefits package to support physical, financial, emotional and social wellbeing.
