Overview
Job Purpose
The Senior Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for designing, testing, implementing, maintaining, and controlling the organization's databases across multiple platforms, technologies, and computing environments. This role provides technical guidance to less experienced DBAs and requires the ability to apply comprehensive functional and technical knowledge in a team setting - spanning problem resolution, design and engineering decisions, and system architecture planning.
We are looking for a technology enthusiast with strong technical, organizational, and analytical skills. You will ensure that databases are performant, secure, and stable - troubleshooting and resolving issues across production and non-production environments. You will also play a key role in change and release management for software developments and implementations alongside the Global DBA Team.
Responsibilities- Design, architect, and plan database solutions to meet business needs. Apply comprehensive business process, application design, and functional knowledge to problem resolution.
- Lead and contribute to the development of new methods, procedures, processes, and systems. Understand the broader impact of changes and provide input into team-level and organizational decision‑making.
- Design and implement disaster recovery solutions for database systems.
- Investigate and resolve performance‑related issues. Design database systems to ensure appropriate levels of performance, data integrity, recoverability, and security.
- Monitor and analyze system performance (e.g., stress/volume testing), perform cost analysis, conduct systems testing, and recommend solutions to management.
- Develop and implement standards, procedures, and policies for software and application databases — including naming conventions, migration, backup, recovery, and security.
- Configure monitoring and proactively review statistics for errors, capacity, and performance issues.
- Tune and troubleshoot software and database performance issues.
- Ensure database recoverability within the constraints of application, project, and business requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related discipline, or equivalent technical experience.
- 5+ years of Database Administration experience with one or more of the following:
Postgre
SQL, MySQL, Maria
DB, Mongo
DB, Cassandra, or similar technologies. - Experience supporting databases on AWS (RDS / Aurora) or GCP (Cloud
SQL) is a strong plus. - Exposure to technologies such as Kafka, Redis, ELK, Flink, or Click House is a plus.
- Solid knowledge of Linux/Unix operating systems; proficiency in shell scripting and at least one programming language (Python, Java, C/C++, Perl, or similar), ideally in a database context.
- Understanding of system architecture and system administration concepts is a plus.
- Aptitude to work with application and business data; willingness to learn and support multiple data platform technologies in a fast‑paced environment.
- Excellent problem‑solving, issue identification, analytical, and technical documentation skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to participate in an on‑call rotation, including occasional weekend coverage.
