We are seeking a skilled and experienced COBOL Mainframe Programmer/Developer for a consulting engagement. This role involves translating business requirements into robust programming solutions, maintaining and enhancing custom software, and providing production support. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in COBOL programming, JCL, and mainframe systems, with additional experience in database technologies and system integration.
This is an onsite position from day one.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate analysis, design documents, and specifications into well-structured programs.
- Maintain and enhance custom-developed software, including user data entry screens, batch processing, reports, queries, and menus.
- Review existing code, data, and business processes to support non-database functions.
- Execute test program changes, update test files, run tests, review results, and ensure accuracy.
- Identify and correct data errors through application logic and develop analysis/summary reports using IBM and Microsoft tools.
- Assist with the migration from COBOL applications to web-based applications.
- Prepare program-level and user-level documentation for the software development lifecycle.
- Enhance software performance and efficiency while adhering to organizational code management and deployment guidelines.
Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of COBOL development on Mainframe with JCL development and maintenance.
- Proven experience with COBOL, DB2, JCL, and Control-M.
- Strong understanding of the full software development lifecycle (design, development, testing, deployment).
- Ability to troubleshoot, test, and debug software to meet business requirements.
- Strong analytical skills for error correction, process improvement, and reporting.
- Experience preparing detailed program-level and user-level documentation.
- Excellent communication skills to coordinate user sign-off before production deployment.
- Proven ability to follow organizational guidelines for source code management and migration.
- Commitment to delivering high-quality, efficient solutions.
