Job Description

At Cloudera, we empower people to transform complex data into clear and actionable insights. With as much data under management as the hyperscalers, we’re the preferred data partner for the top companies in almost every industry. Powered by the relentless innovation of the open source community, Cloudera advances digital transformation for the world’s largest enterprises.

The Data Platform Pillar is the bedrock of Cloudera’s technology, where we design and build the core components that let our customers store, manage, and process data with unmatched scalability, security, and performance. Cloudera’s mission is to empower enterprises with hybrid cloud data platforms at global scale. The Cluster Management team builds and operates the core foundations behind Cloudera Data Platform, Data Hub, and Data Lake services, the backbone of hybrid data management across on‑premise and public cloud environments.

We’re seeking an experienced and passionate Senior Engineering Manager to strengthen our leadership presence in the US and drive the next evolution of Cloudera’s hybrid data platform.

As a Sr. Engineering Manager, you will:
  • Act as the senior decision-maker for platform reliability, incident response, and customer-impacting escalations during US hours, coordinating across SRE, Support, and Product.
  • Lead engineering delivery for foundational components such as metering, usage insights, cross-cutting security initiatives, Data Hub features, and Cloudera Manager capabilities.
  • Guide teams working on upgrades, compliance, operational readiness, and the long-term stability of hybrid deployments.
  • Partner with global engineering leaders to uphold architectural, quality, and operational standards.
  • Mentor engineers and emerging leaders, fostering a culture of ownership and technical rigor.
  • Collaborate closely with EMEA leadership, including participating in early-morning alignment meetings.
Required Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in an appropriate discipline with 3+ years of management experience and 8+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Background in software engineering (Java, Python, Go, or similar) with the ability to dive into code when necessary.
  • Leadership experience running production-critical platforms or distributed systems.
  • Strong understanding of AWS, Azure, or GCP environments.
  • Familiarity with engines such as Spark, Hive, Impala, or Trino in hybrid or multi-cloud environments.
  • Calm and decisive leadership style during high-severity incidents.
  • Excellent communication and the ability to bridge global teams and executives.
Why this role matters

You will tackle complex distributed systems challenges, crafting the foundational software for the control and data planes that powers CDP and keeps it running at massive scale. Working at the forefront of hybrid and multi-cloud technology, you will empower data scientists, engineers, and analysts with the tools and infrastructure they need for advanced analytics and modeling. Collaboration is key; you will work alongside brilliant minds across product, data science, and engineering to drive innovation, standardize best practices, and shape the future of enterprise AI and data platforms.

This is your chance to build the future of data and see your work make a global impact.
