Highland Mortgage is looking for an HR and Payroll Specialist to ensure accurate payroll processing, maintain compliance with labor laws, and provide day-to-day human resources support. This role is a vital part of our Human Resources team, bridging payroll accuracy with a strong HR foundation, and serving as a trusted point of contact for employees across the company.

THE PLAN

Everyone on our team has a part to play

  • Process bi-weekly (hourly) and semi-monthly (salary) payroll for all employees accurately and on time.
  • Expense report approvals and reimbursements
  • Maintain payroll records, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Administer employee timekeeping systems and resolve payroll discrepancies.
  • Support recruiting efforts – job posts, reviewing resumes, and scheduling interviews
  • Manage onboarding and offboarding processes, including new hire orientation, benefits enrollment and exit procedures.
  • Maintain employee records in the HRIS with accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Assist in administering benefits programs (health, 401K retirement, leave management, etc.).
  • Assist Director of Human Resources with all Employee Engagement Programs
  • Manage and maintain state tax accounts, notices, and compliance procedures
  • Respond to employee inquiries and escalate HR-related concerns appropriately.
  • Partner with Director of HR on initiatives such as performance management, training & compliance.
QUALIFICATIONS

What we’re looking for

  • 2+ years of payroll and/or HR experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of ADP payroll systems, Benefits Administration systems and HRIS
  • Understanding of federal and state employment/payroll laws and compliance.
  • Excellent organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong communication - written and verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Nice to Have:
    Experience in the mortgage or financial services industry.
