Winship Cancer Institute is seeking an innovative and experienced leader to serve as Director, Programs within our Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) team. This position offers the opportunity to shape and implement strategic initiatives that address cancer disparities across Georgia, and to lead key programs and manage budgets. The ideal candidate must have strong decision‑making skills with experience in strategic planning, working with community partners, interpreting population‑based data, and supporting research and care efforts.
PhD is preferred.
- Direct the strategic planning, development, and implementation of a large and complex program or several smaller programs.
- Plan, administer, and monitor program budgets.
- Develop short and long term goals and objectives.
- Oversee related special projects.
- Represent the program in various national and international settings.
- Manage the solicitation of funding from foundations, corporate, individual, and governmental donors.
- Collaborate with and seek the support of representatives from other organizations.
- Establish and administer policies and procedures.
- Supervise staff.
- Perform related responsibilities as required.
- Ensure catchment area assessment data and input from community stakeholders are integrated into the strategic planning process.
- Work closely with Marketing and Communications to disseminate data and events relevant to Winship Cancer Institute and its catchment area (state of Georgia).
- Develop materials needed to maintain COE website information and other community outreach activities.
- Manage finances and budgets for COE and the Winship Center for Cancer Health Equity Research (WCCHER) in collaboration with Winship Finances.
- Generate programmatic and research project budgets; review budgetary expenses and work closely with Finance to maintain budgetary compliance; facilitate processing of programmatic expenses.
- Ensure budgetary and financial compliance with University policies and procedures.
- Review and assign requests for services received by COE from researchers, clinicians, students, and community members.
- Collaborate with Emory University Government Relations staff and with representatives from local, state, and national government entities and other organizations relevant to policy that impacts the cancer burden in Georgia.
- Monitor and regularly evaluate progress in reaching goals identified through the strategic planning process.
- Partner with county and statewide community organizations to promote evidence‑based interventions for cancer prevention, screening, and control.
- Draft annual announcement for Community Mini‑Grant Pilot program; oversee distribution, application reviews, awards, and progress reports.
- Serve as key member of Planning Committee for annual statewide Georgia Cancer Summit.
- Represent COE at institutional, local, state, or national meetings.
- Collaborate with Emory Healthcare for community‑based clinical activities, e.g., screening programs.
- Organize meetings, communications, and oversee activities of the Winship Community Advisory Board (CAB) and Winship Center for Cancer Health Equity Research.
