Operates ultrasound scanning equipment to produce records of designated portions of the human anatomy of infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Has the ability to work in any outpatient facility and perform and produce diagnostic imaging in at least three ultrasound imaging areas, with two being General and Vascular and the third being either Breast and/or Pediatric and/or MSK. Has adequate breast ultrasound experience to travel as a breast imaging specialist, will work at any breast care locations, and will precept, train, and orient all new staff in breast imaging at all breast care locations.

Provide diagnostic ultrasound imaging across assigned patient populations and facilities, ensuring quality images and accurate records for interpretation.

• Certified in at least two ultrasound areas, depending on center services:
  General, Vascular, Pediatric, Musculoskeletal, and/or Breast.
• Must be able to perform ultrasound exams in at least three services provided by the center.
• All sonographers must obtain certification within one year of hire date or cross training.
• Certified in Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or obtain certification within 90 days of employment.

Sonographers must be in compliance with ARDMS, ARRT or CCI continuing education requirements appropriate to their practices.

• Certified or eligible for certification by:
  American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
• OR American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, Sonography (ARRT) (S).
• All sonographers must obtain certification within one year of hire date or cross training.
• Certified in Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or obtain within 90 days of employment.

Sonographers must be in compliance with ARDMS, ARRDMS, ARRT or CCI continuing education requirements for their practices.

• ARDMS certification in vascular technology (RVT).
• ARRT certification in vascular technology (RT (VS)).

Continuing

Education:

Sonographers must be in compliance with ARDMS, ARRT or CCI requirements for continuing education.

  Qualifications:
  
  ARDMS certification and current registration, or ARRT post-primary certification and current registration in breast sonography, or ARRT certification and current registration with MQSA qualification.
• 5 CEUs specific to breast ultrasound.
• CPR certification or obtain within 90 days of employment.

  Regular performance of breast ultrasound exams.

  Education:
  
  Registered Technologists—CE requirements for their certifying organization and CE credits pertinent to the technologist’s ACR-accredited clinical practice.

• Graduate from an accredited school of Ultrasound Technology.
• Registered Ultrasound Technologist (ARDMS or ARRT) with prior Ultrasound experience.
• Registered Vascular Technologist with two years vascular-related experience.
• One year experience in breast ultrasound.
• One year experience in pediatric ultrasound.
• Five or more years of Ultrasound experience for precepting, orienting, or training others.
