At ELM, the ASC Administrator is responsible for the oversight of the administrative requirements of the ASC. Utilizes effective communication both internally and externally. Oversees and coordinates all the administrative aspects of the ASC operating functions and processes to include financial activities and staffing. Demonstrates the primary goal of efficiency by providing surgical services that exceed the patient’s expectations and improve facility operations.
The administrator works closely with the Medical Director, Governing Body, Executive Director of Operations, and ASC Clinical Director to establish facility goals and objectives. Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies and applicable laws and maintains a positive public relations image in all communications. The administrators work closely with the management team members and Governing Body to ensure safe and efficient facility operations.
Functions
- Works with the Clinical Director to develop, implement and monitor adherence to policies and procedures to ensure appropriate care is provided and compliance requirements are met
- Monitor staffing levels, staff activities and meetings, and supplements staffing needs
- Maintain compliance and accreditation according to AAAHC and State/Federal requirements through administrative tasks with the direction of the ASC Clinical Director
- Responds appropriately to external inquiries to include, but not limited to regulatory, legal, and executive management requests
- Assist the ASC Clinical Director to develop, evaluate and promote implementation of a continuous quality improvement program and infection control program
- Ensure the staff is instructed and competent in current infection prevention policies and procedures
- Serve on and assist with leading the ASC Quality Improvement, Risk Management and Governance Committees. Assists with implementation of policies and procedures to support Committee objectives and identify quality care issues
- Obtain and maintain equipment and supplies necessary to perform procedures consistent with budgets and purchasing initiatives
- Understand physician preferences and ensure those preferences are adhered to as indicated
- Data collection for special projects
- Maintain and order medical and clerical supplies
- Monitors patient, physician, and visitor flow through the facility to ensure efficient and effective processes
- Maintains credentialing requirements for providers, anesthesia, and any necessary personnel that enters the surgery center. Provides support, reviews, and enforces business, clinical, safety, and personnel policies to ensure compliance with appropriate regulations
- Reports significant information to the Medical Director and Governing Board regarding medical, financial and workflow issues affecting the facility
- Investigates and resolves patient, visitor, vendor, employee, or physician complaints or concerns through personal action and reports to higher authority, if appropriate
- Issues purchase orders to vendors
- Review claims for accounts receivable
- Demonstrates knowledge of payor contracts
- Demonstrates knowledge of fee schedules, charges, contractual adjustments, and collections
- Conduct pre-operative review of records as needed with anesthesia to determine clearance for surgery
- Provides oversight of surgery schedules and special cases and uses information to avoid scheduling conflicts
- Ensure communicating staff competencies and center goals are completed within a timely manner
- Provides oversight for:
- Surgery schedulers
- Prior authorization/benefits
- Personal Injury Coordinator
- Always holds staff accountable for duties and responsibilities inherent to their position as well as manages time keeping and time off activity
- Handles or assists with disciplinary action as required and documents accordingly
- Monitors productivity of employees and efficiency and safety of the facility overall through performance and benchmarking indicators and training
- Maintains competencies through continuing education
- Perform other duties as assigned by authorized personnel or as requested to meet the needs of the facility as well as cross-trains to perform other appropriate clerical tasks and ensure the safety and comfort of all customers as well as the efficient operation of the facility

- Must have excellent time management skills as well as solid EClinical Works experience
- A comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology and commercial insurance plans is also required
- Ability to use discretion and work independently under general supervision
- Ability to understand and adhere to the Professional Code of Conduct
- An Associate’s Degree in Medical Office Administration
- 3 to 5 years of work experience in a surgery center environment is required
- Certified Administrator Surgery Center Certification preferred
