Respiratory Care Practitioner / WEO position at Emory Healthcare. 6:45a-7:15p / Full Time / 36 Hours - Weekends Only. Emory Healthcare is a leading Atlanta hospital system offering care in cardiology, heart surgery, cancer, neurology, and more.
Emory Long-Term Acute Care Hospital (ELTACH) provides care for patients with serious, complex medical conditions requiring extended hospital stays. Patients often need ongoing, intensive care after leaving a traditional hospital but are not yet ready to transition to rehabilitation or home care.
Job SummaryThe Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) serves as a clinician in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Uses evidence-based practice, supports department and service-area initiatives, and grows professionally. Adheres to the Emory Behavioral Standards and Emory Service Culture Guidelines. Provides Patient and Family Centered Care. Meets departmental/hospital quality & safety goals.
Key Responsibilities- Completes and maintains all competencies; refers and guides others in the use of policies and procedures in the clinical setting; ensures competence to function in new areas.
- Assures equipment is functioning properly and ready for emergent situations; removes items from service and reports failures as needed.
- Assesses unit workload and reports to supervisor/charge; anticipates needs; participates in patient round discussions; identifies alternate methods of therapy or mechanical ventilation.
- Maintains clinical competency in appropriate areas; attends department meetings (75%), in-services and educational offerings.
- Supports care modifications for the patient care team; acquires resources not readily available; serves as a resource for ventilator management.
- Participates in professional activity: product evaluation and selection; reviews policies and procedures to guide practice; encouraged to attend one professional local, state or national Respiratory conference every two years; 10 CEUs required annually.
Minimum Education: Associates degree in Respiratory Care.
Minimum Experience: New Graduate to 2 years experience.
Judgement: Employee may work independently under the general direction of their leader.
Licensure/Certification: Currently licensed as an active Respiratory Care Practitioner in the state of Georgia. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board of Respiratory Care. Preferred membership in American Association of Respiratory Care (AARC).
Other Requirements: BLS required; ACLS required for adult critical care within 6 months of hire; NRP required for Special care nursery/NICU.
Physical RequirementsMedium: 20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the workday occasionally; 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday frequently; 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday constantly. Lifting up to 50 lbs; carrying objects up to 25 lbs; standing and walking frequently; occasional sitting; close eye work; physical demands vary by area.
Environmental FactorsPotential exposure to blood-borne pathogens, bio-hazardous waste, chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors, communicable diseases, electrical shock, floor surfaces, hot/cold temperatures, lighting, radiation, shift work; travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment and respirators; environmental conditions vary by area.
