Vice President, State Government Affairs, Southeast Region
The Vice President, State Government Affairs (VP) for the Southeast Region is responsible for representing the Motion Picture Association, Inc. (MPA) before state legislatures and regulatory agencies and departments on a wide range of policy issues in the southeastern region of the United States. The VP will report and be supervised by the Senior Vice President, State Government Affairs (SVP) in analyzing legislative and regulatory developments, communicating developments with internal and external stakeholders, and working collaboratively to formulate and manage strategy to advance initiatives and priorities of the MPA member companies.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement advocacy strategies in support of MPA state legislative and regulatory priorities
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of emerging legislation, policy issues and industry trends, ensuring that relevant stakeholders are informed with analysis of the significance, relevance, and business impact of these matters in a timely manner
- Advocate for key priorities before state legislative and regulatory agencies.
- Draft policy communications on key legislative issues, including briefing memos, presentations, comment letters and other communication materials in a professional and clear manner.
- Cultivate relationships with state legislative and regulatory officials and staff
- Develop political giving plans and manage activities related to the MPA state PACs
- Manage advocacy plans in coordination with contract legislative advocates to advance MPA priorities
- Work closely with member companies’ constituents on key policy issues, legislative priorities, and other matters.
- Collaborate with coalitions, industry stakeholders, and other external organizations on policy matters
- Review and analyze state legislation introduced in relevant subject areas.
- Analyze, communicate, and develop strategies on complex policy matters.
- Other special projects as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree Required.
- 5+ years of professional experience in government, legislative or public policy
- Multi-state experience preferred
- Master’s Degree Preferred.
- Must possess the highest level of professionalism, work ethic and integrity with the ability to maintain confidential business and political information.
- Strong working understanding of state and local legislative, regulatory and policy making process and government relations.
- Expert level experience in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook and virtual conferencing.
- Ability to manage a complex workload and deadlines.
- Ability to develop and direct advocacy campaigns
- Excellent analytical, interpersonal, writing and communication skills.
- Ability to demonstrate the highest level of leadership and professionalism with internal and external colleagues and build trustworthy relationships.
- Sound judgment, initiative, and the ability to work as part of a team.
- Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time and work irregular hours.
- Ability to adapt as the external environment and organization evolves.
- Press, media relations, or communications experience a plus.
