Job SummaryThe Loan Closer advances the CDFI’s mission by managing complex affordable housing loan closings from credit approval through funding. This role ensures compliance with internal policies, investor requirements, and applicable regulations while coordinating borrowers, legal counsel, public agencies, lenders, and internal staff to execute accurate and timely closings.
The position requires extensive experience in pre-closing, closing, and post-closing documentation for acquisition, construction, and permanent real estate loans. The Loan Closer verifies that documents align with approved credit terms and that all closing requirements are satisfied. Key accountabilities include document accuracy, efficient execution, and effective cross-departmental communication.
Duties and Responsibilities Loan Closing and Documentation- Prepare and manage commitment letters to ensure alignment with approved business and legal terms
- Manage a portfolio of new, modified, and renewed transactions
- Review and coordinate attorney-prepared loan documents to confirm accuracy and compliance with approvals
- Address borrower comments and negotiate documentation terms while preserving credit integrity
- Collect and review due diligence materials in coordination with Loan Officers and Underwriters
- Review executed closing documents, audit settlement statements, and authorize disbursements with Loan Servicing
- Submit pre- and post-closing data for NLS booking and loan setup
- Track original documents and post-closing deliverables
- Prepare and process loan modifications and extensions with appropriate approvals
- Maintain document templates, checklists, loan files, and Salesforce legal records
- Ensure organizational good standing filings are maintained
- Conduct research on real estate and related legal matters as needed
- Participate in closing calls and provide internal status updates
- Document and elevate material changes in loan terms
- Collaborate with Loan Officers, Credit Administration, and Loan Servicing to ensure smooth processes
- Maintain and report on the legal pipeline of active transactions
- Attend Loan Committee meetings to provide documentation-related input
- Coordinate funding upon closing
- Support additional projects and responsibilities as assigned
- 10+ years of residential or commercial real estate lending experience or related transferable expertise
- Strong knowledge of loan documentation, title, survey, UCC, and relevant federal and state programs
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and identify risks proactively
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in standard business software and online research tools
