Job Description

The Benefits Manager is responsible for the strategic administration, compliance, and optimization of the company’s U.S. employee benefits programs. This role oversees complex self funded healthcare plans, retirement programs, and all associated vendor, broker, and fiduciary partnerships. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with a strong commitment to delivering an exceptional employee experience.

Key Responsibilities

Benefits Strategy & Administration
  • Administer and manage all U.S. employee benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, wellness programs, and 401(k) or retirement plans.
  • Lead the annual renewal process, plan design evaluations and annual planning health and wellness plans.
  • Monitor benefit competitiveness and cost trends, providing insights to ensure benefits offerings remain competitive, cost-effective, and aligned with organizational goals.
Compliance & Risk Management
  • Maintain full compliance with federal and state regulations, including ERISA, IRS, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, and any applicable state-specific mandates.
  • Oversee plan audits, filings (e.g., Form 5500), and fiduciary requirements.
  • Evaluate and mitigate risks associated with self funded plans and vendor relationships.
Vendor, Broker & Partner Management
  • Serve as the primary liaison with benefit consultants, brokers, TPAs, carriers, and wellness vendors.
  • Lead RFPs, contract negotiations, and ongoing service-level monitoring.
  • Manage relationships with financial partners, including Finance, Payroll, and fiduciary committees, ensuring accurate reporting and plan governance.
Financial Oversight & Cost Management
  • Conduct cost analysis, forecasting, and reporting for benefits spend.
  • Monitor plan performance and recommend adjustments based on claims trends and utilization.
  • Partner closely with Finance on budgeting, accruals, and annual renewal processes.
Employee Experience & Support
  • Champion a high-quality employee experience through clear communication, empathetic service, and accessible resources.
  • Develop and deliver benefits education programs to enhance employee understanding and utilization.
  • Resolve escalated employee benefit inquiries with professionalism and confidentiality.
Qualifications

Required

  • 5–7+ years of progressive experience in U.S. benefits administration, including hands‑on management of self funded health plans.
  • Deep knowledge of federal and state compliance requirements (ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience partnering with brokers, TPAs, and other benefits vendors.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex cost and claims data.
  • Experience collaborating with Finance, Payroll, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and employee facing support skills.

Preferred

  • CEBS, CBP, SHRM CP/SCP, or related certifications.
  • Experience in a multi state organization with complex compliance needs.
  • Prior involvement with fiduciary committees and retirement plan governance.

Additional Information

This position has a base salary range of $115,000 to $130,000 and is eligible for discretionary variable bonus.
