The Novelis Corporate tax team is seeking a Senior Manager Tax Operations. The person in this role will report to the VP, Tax. The ideal candidate will be responsible for guaranteeing the accuracy and quality of quarterly and annual income tax reporting of Novelis in US GAAP for Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Ind As for Hindalco Consolidation and filing with Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI);

the design and implementation of process improvements and enhanced controls including the utilization of technology to create efficiencies, collaborating in the implementation of tax planning strategies, and providing guidance and support to ensure the integrity and operational effectiveness of the tax function.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all aspects of the global accounting for income taxes (ASC 740) for the interim and year-end tax provision, preparation and review of balance sheet tax reconciliations including the proper application of FIN
    48, FIN
    18 and APB
    23
  • Handle all aspects of financial statement reporting for income taxes at a global level which involves consolidation from the regions, review and evaluation, as well as making the final adjustments and bookings in accordance with US GAAP and Ind As.
  • Reviews and evaluates reporting from the regions and resolves problems/asks questions to the responsible parties in the regions accordingly.
  • Handles relevant disclosures for SEC reporting and SEBI
  • Subject matter authority for tax provision and handles questions or resolves issues brought forward by VP of Global Tax or CFO.
  • Maintain a current knowledge of tax accounting literature. Assess and efficiently implement new accounting standards. Develop procedures, systems and controls to address changes.
  • Liaison with external auditors to address tax accounting matters and minimize cost overruns.
  • Liaise with regional leaders responsible for tax compliance to provide oversight of global tax compliance maintaining a global compliance calendar.
  • Develop and maintain effective internal controls over accounting for income taxes and ensure the proper level of documentation.
  • Assess and implement technological alternatives to automate, streamline and create efficiencies for calculating the provision, reporting and compliance.
  • Responsible for all aspects of ETR and cash flow forecasting and variance analysis including compilation and presentation to internal partners.
  • Drive simplification and accuracy of the ETR and cash forecasting and reporting processes.
  • Collaborate with the Tax Director, NNA & Global Operations and other tax leaders in the implementation of planning ideas to minimize global taxes in a manner that agrees with the overall company strategy.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years related tax experience with at least 8 years of experience with tax provisioning, in-depth knowledge of ASC 740 and the application of FIN 48 and APB 23
  • Experience with compliance and implementing internal controls
  • Demonstrated ability to lead others, both directly and indirectly and to operate effectively in a matrixed environment.
  • Change oriented: open to change (positive or negative) in response to new information, different or unexpected circumstances, and/or to work in ambiguous situations
  • Ability to properly interpret and strategically apply government regulations and related technical requirements to global business and trade scenarios.
