Position
Purpose:
This position is responsible for leading the Tax Analysts in the administration of federal, state, local, employee and employer payroll taxes, including research, analysis, data set up, reconciliations, and validating the preparation of tax documents/returns in an accurate and timely manner.
Key Responsibilities:50% Lead team responsible for tax funding, tax reconciliation, review and analysis of tax notices, tax form processing, tax form corrections, tax return filings, and tax return amendments. Maintain current knowledge of tax regulatory changes. Work closely with Legal and Accounting to determine the impact of changes as well as ensure all payroll systems reflect any changes. Develop a working relationship with external tax processors to accurately and efficiently file and fund payroll taxes for federal, state, and local jurisdictions, includes daily, weekly, and quarterly review of transmitted data and review of tax notice information.
20% Monitor performance of staff members. Delegate tasks and organize work for direct reports.
20% Lead special projects relating to regulatory changes, improving processes and/or reducing costs. Project involvement may include analyzing, facilitating, and testing process and system changes, and may include working with other internal departments and external consultants.
10% Coordinate activities between our external unemployment claims processors, external tax filing processor and internal production support to ensure that all tax tables in the payroll system reflect current and accurate rates.
Reports to a Manager
Accountable for direct supervision of the work activities of others. Planning, monitoring and reviewing work of subordinates is required. This may include direct supervision of a shift or the coordination of multiple work groups. Makes recommendations concerning selection, termination, performance appraisal and professional development.
- Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
- Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
- Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

- Prior supervisory experience. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required.
- Ability to perform financial analysis needed to participate in audits, reconcile with holdings, ensure tax forms balance, etc.
- Ability to organize people and resources appropriately to meet goals in a timely manner.
