Corporate Controller

Our organization is rapidly growing, and we’re looking for a strong Controller to join our team and drive financial reporting excellence across the organization.

Reporting to the President, in this role, you will lead all accounting operations, build the Account management team and corporate administrative support team to meet business needs, partner with the President on managing budgets, and be a strategic partner to the management team on the accounting implications of all initiatives.

The ideal candidate will have strong public accounting and industry experience in the wholesale/retail environment.

Duties include (but not limited to) overseeing data entry accountant, producing critical financial reports, profit and loss statements, balance sheets, financial prospectuses, financial performance prediction reports, compliance audits, monitoring internal controls, participating in the budgeting process and analyzing financial data.

Successful candidates must be able to prioritize and manage multiple duties and tasks with frequent interruptions and meet strict deadlines.

• Act as the head of accounting, and oversee the preparation of financial reports, such as balance sheets and income statements.
• Oversee monthly accounting and reporting processes, ensure compliance with GAAP standards.
• Submit and explain complex financial concepts to executives and people without a financial background.
• Establish and maintain internal controls to support the financial infrastructure (compliance with professional, state, and federal regulatory req.)
• Overseeing the fulfillment of financial compilation requests and accountable for the results of the annual audit/compilation.
• Work closely with the President’s Office to ensure execution of payroll, expense reporting, corporate state/federal tax filings, etc.
• Manage accounting monthly close operations, tax, and financial reporting, including the daily activities for GL, AP, AR, cash management, revenue recognition, and equity administration.
• Lead the entire Accounting function and responsible for building out a high-performance accounting function to meet the demands of the business.
• Drive the initial financial compilation for the company and going forward, build strong relationships with external accountants (CBIZ), and partner internally to develop and support operational and compliance programs.
• Evaluate new technical accounting developments and recommend appropriate actions, including process improvement at all levels of the company.
• Banking interface to build strong relationships with banking partners
• Prepare internal and external financial reporting for management team review, board meetings, and investor presentations.
• Lead the efforts to evaluate the current accounting software, communications, and technology to meet business needs.
• Identify and implement the appropriate ERP and other systems to support the company’s growth.
• Assist FP&A in refining department-level budgeting, including meeting with different team leads to discuss actual spend vs. planned spend.
• Partner with the management team on other strategic business initiatives, including the evaluation of accounting implications for these decisions.
• Maximizes return, and limits risk, on cash by minimizing bank balances
• Prepares budgets by establishing schedules; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data; recommending plans.
• Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; filing financial reports; advising management on needed actions.
• Daily cash and working capital management oversight
• Provide prompt feedback on financial information and recommendations for improvement to the President to optimize results and minimize unfavorable trends.
• Provide scheduled and ad hoc financial and management reports.
• Ownership of GL, chart of accounts, fixed asset management, and all account reconciliations.
• Management of all settlement, accounts payable/receivables, payroll, and cash management activities.
• Manage the month-end close process by reviewing monthly journal entries and account reconciliations.
• Oversee Profit Sharing and administration of the 5500’s
• Support outside tax accounting firm in the preparation and filing of state and federal tax returns.
• Hire, manage, and develop accounting staff as needed.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
• Licensed Certified Public Accountant
• 5+ years Accounting in wholesale/retail-based Accounting experience
• 10+ years of progressive accounting management experience
• SAP Business One experience
• Strong understanding of GAAP and technical accounting
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, strong experience with Excel and related tools, exposure to FP&A is preferred.
