_Technical Shared Services (TSS), Project Engineering Department_
WORK LOCATION, SCHEDULE, & TRAVEL
+ This position will be based out of The Energy Center in _Birmingham, AL_ or the Southern Company Gas Corp HQ in _Atlanta, GA_ .
+ Hybrid work schedule (in-office, field and telecommute); currently four (4) days in-office or at a plant/field site and one (1) day telecommute (subject to adjustment).
+ This position will require a mixture of both field and office work.
+ Field work can include site visits to various gas facilities and may require overnight travel.
+ This position will require some travel (days and overnight, up to 50%) and the ability to work successfully in a remote/virtual environment with access to internet service.
+ Relocation assistance may be provided if the successful candidate does not currently live within a reasonable commute distance.
POSITION SUMMARY
A Project Engineer acts as the engineering manager of design and procurement activities for a variety of projects throughout Southern Company. Projects may range from large capital to small maintenance (retrofits) for gas storage and compression facilities, fossil and renewable electric generating facilities and transmission facilities. This role is responsible for managing the engineering scope, engineering budgets, engineering schedules, and serves as the main point of contact for engineering deliverables to plant, Southern Company Gas or TSS project managers.
The Project Engineer also works with Design and Technical Services disciplines (Civil, Environmental, Electrical, I&C, Mechanical) to ensure adequate and qualified resources are assigned to the project, anticipating changes in project scope, budget, and schedule requirements, and developing/communicating mitigation plans for those changes. They also identify and communicate lessons learned and facilitate resolving engineering and vendor related issues. This position is also required to maintain accurate project records in a variety of project management applications
This Project Engineer position will be filled at a Level 6 or 7, based on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification:
_
+ B.S. in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution is required.
+ Project Management Professional (PMP) or Professional Engineer (PE) certification is a plus.
_Technical & Leadership
Experience:
_
+ 5+ years' combined experience in either of the following areas:
+ Design or project management related to engineering, procurement, construction, and startup for liquid natural gas (LNG) facilities, gas storage facilities, gas compressor stations, heavy industrial projects or electric utility generation
+ Experience working in (or in direct support of) LNG, gas storage, gas compression, plant (pulp and paper, chemical, oil, etc.) or electric utility generation facilities
+ Experience using regulations 49 CFR 192 (Natural Gas Pipelines) and 49 CFR 193 (LNG Facilities) is a plus.
+ Formal or informal experience in a lead type role (i.e. directing activities of direct reports or project team members)
+ Budget/schedule management
+ Understanding of project change control
+ Strong risk mitigation and analytical skills to evaluate progress, identify problem areas, evaluate alternatives, and determine viable solutions

RESPONSIBILITIES
+ Perform project engineering assignments involved in the design and construction of, natural gas processing and storage facilities, liquified natural gas (LNG) plant facilities and compressor stations.

+ Develop statement of work documents to secure and manage engineering and construction service providers, inspectors, and other technical resources that may be needed to develop the project. Manages outside engineering and construction services to ensure project goals are met.
+ Develop contract documents and purchase requisitions for procurement of materials/equipment.
+ Participate in procurement process to identify acceptable vendors and contractors. Evaluates bids and coordinates with other departments to ensure consistency with corporate standards.
+ Demonstrate proficiency in applying codes and standards to perform natural gas engineering, plant construction and operation.
+ Maintain working knowledge of relevant technologies and best practices. Ensures engineering standards, methods and practices are in regulatory compliance.
