Detailed Description

This position supports the Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) functions of NASA’s human spaceflight programs. The GNC group supports the International Space Station (ISS), Gateway, Artemis, Boeing Starliner, and Lunar surface exploration flight control in the Mission Control Center (MCC) at Johnson Space Center (JSC). The candidate will likely be assigned projects in software development or testing, and possibly projects developing displays and computations to be used in the MCC.

The candidate will also be exposed to all aspects of Flight Controller training, simulations, and mission support to gain direct insight into the functions of the organization.

Position Requirements
  • MUST BE ACTIVE DUTY MILITARY ELIGIBLE FOR THE SKILLBRIDGE PROGRAM.
  • A Bachelor of Science in Engineering, or Physics and Math from an accredited engineering school, college or university is required, or anticipate degree by June 2026.
  • Candidate must have a technical background and a good understanding of engineering principles.
Skills / Training
  • The candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills, demonstrated initiative, outstanding organizational skills, the ability to participate in a team environment, and the ability to function well under pressure.
  • Must be proficient in Windows and Microsoft applications.
  • The candidate must have strong multi‑tasking/work prioritization skills.
  • Knowledge of engineering principles and the ability to apply them to real‑time operations is essential.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, leadership, teamwork, technical, and administrative skills are mandatory.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, lead, and coordinate a wide range of tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to progress towards flight controller and instructor certifications.
  • Must be able to apply technical knowledge and operations concepts to exercise effective decision making and initiative in a real‑time and fast‑paced operational environment.
  • Must be a self‑starter who excels in a dynamic environment with the ability to work effectively both alone or as part of a team.
  • Shift work (nights, weekends, and holidays) may be required.
  • Upon successful completion of the Skill Bridge term, the successful candidate must be able to meet JSC requirements for certification as a Flight Controller. In addition, candidates must be able to apply for and successfully receive/maintain the required security clearance. Must be able to pass an Air Force Class III physical. Night, weekend, and Holiday work may be required for integrated simulations and flight support.

    Domestic and international travel may also be required.
  • Successful candidates must be a US Citizen and be able to apply for and successfully receive and maintain security clearance per eligibility requirements.
Preferences
  • Preference for Aerospace, Aeronautical, Astronautical, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience in Guidance, Navigation and Control in coursework or internships.
  • The candidate must be able to work in a dynamic environment that requires him/her to work effectively both alone and as part of a team.
  • The candidate must have a demonstrated ability to plan, lead, and coordinate a wide range of tasks.
