The Role
We are seeking a Senior Engineer - Civil/Site with strong public sector experience to support and lead the design of civil/site and utility infrastructure projects, with an emphasis on water and wastewater system design. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who can independently prepare plans, lead junior staff, and coordinate with project managers, clients, and agency stakeholders. The successful candidate will be highly proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D, comfortable working on complex site/utility projects, and capable of producing complete construction documents with minimal oversight.
Micro Station experience is a plus, and a PE is preferred.
- Prepare civil/site and utility design plans for public sector projects, including
- Water distribution systems
- Sanitary sewer collection systems
- Pump stations and related infrastructure (as applicable)
- Utility relocations and coordination
- Site grading, drainage, and stormwater management
- Develop plan sets, profiles, details, and technical drawings for construction documents.
- Perform design calculations and support preparation of technical specifications.
- Coordinate permitting requirements and agency standards for public infrastructure projects.
- Support project managers in delivering projects on schedule and within budget.
- Coordinate with internal disciplines, subconsultants, and external stakeholders.
- Participate in client and agency meetings, including design reviews and utility coordination meetings.
- Support field investigations and construction-phase services as needed.
- Lead and mentor junior engineering staff and CAD designers.
- Review work products for quality, accuracy, and adherence to standards.
- Guide design approaches, drafting standards, and best practices.
- Assist with workload planning and task delegation within project teams.
- Prepare full plan sets independently, including:
- Base mapping and layout
- Alignments and profiles
- Utility plan and profile sheets
- Grading and drainage sheets
Erosion and sediment control plans - Construction details and notes
- Maintain organized design files and support QA/QC processes.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or related field).
- 7+ years of progressive experience in civil/site and utility infrastructure design.
- Significant experience delivering public sector projects, including water and wastewater system design.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D (required).
- Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor junior staff.
- Ability to prepare plans and construction documents independently with minimal oversight.
- Strong understanding of civil engineering design standards, permitting, and plan production workflows.
- Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate with project stakeholders.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred (or ability to obtain within a defined timeframe).
- Micro Station experience is a plus.
- Experience with municipal clients, counties, water authorities, and/or state agencies.
- Familiarity with Georgia standards and agency review processes (GDOT, local municipalities, etc.).
- Experience with construction administration support and responding to RFIs/submittals.
