Job SummaryWe are seeking a Test Engineer – Protection & Control (P&C) to support Network Underground Services (NUS) across the state of Georgia, including Atlanta, Macon, Columbus, Augusta, Athens, Savannah, and Valdosta
.
This role is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient testing, operation, maintenance, and repair of underground electrical distribution systems
. The position involves hands‑on field work with energized equipment, SCADA monitoring technologies, and emergency response activities in below‑grade and confined spaces.
This is a field‑based, safety‑sensitive role that requires statewide travel, on‑call availability, and the ability to work in demanding environments.
Key ResponsibilitiesProtection & Control / Field Operations
Perform testing, operation, maintenance, and repair of network underground electrical systems
.Work safely with energized equipment up to 600 VAC in below‑grade, enclosed spaces.
Write and execute switching orders and perform medium‑voltage switching (4kV–25kV) using hot line tools.
Support installation, testing, and maintenance of SCADA system monitoring technologies
, sump pump controllers, and related automation systems.
Participate in a 24/7 rotating on‑call schedule to respond to system emergencies and customer issues.
Provide rapid troubleshooting and restoration support during outages or abnormal system conditions.
Communicate effectively with high‑profile customers
, internal engineering teams, operations, and field crews.Maintain strong working relationships to ensure customer satisfaction and service reliability.
Follow all safety policies and procedures to support a Safety Excellence culture
.Work in outdoor environments and confined, below‑grade spaces
, including climbing ladders 25 feet or more
.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical preferred),
ORAssociate’s degree in a technical field (Electronics, Electrical, Maintenance Technology, or similar)
Valid Georgia Driver’s License required
Must not exceed a maximum weight of 274 lbs (safety equipment limitations)
Ability to work in confined spaces and adverse weather conditions
24/7 on‑call availability (rotating schedule)
Willingness to travel statewide on short notice, including overnights, weekends, and holidays
Overtime eligible (paid)
Strong knowledge of electrical system operations
, distribution systems, and underground construction practicesFamiliarity with SCADA, RTU, PLC, DCS, and HMI systems preferred
Ability to read and interpret electrical wiring diagrams
Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to make safe, timely decisions
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic engineering software
Excellent organizational, prioritization, and communication skills (verbal and written)
Ability to build effective relationships with customers, engineers, corporate partners, and field crews
Self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, and able to follow assignments through to completion
