Field Geologist – Full-time position supporting drilling operations for Southern Company in Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia.
LocationReports to Southern Company's Logan Martin Dam office in Vincent, Alabama. Extensive travel required; travel expenses covered by Southern Company. Company truck provided.

Responsibilities- Field oversight for monitoring well installation programs, foundation investigations, underground utility investigations, or related projects.
- Perform soil and rock logging.
- Prepare professional logs for soil, rock, and monitoring well construction data.
- Manage drilling and other related contractors according to company guidelines and procedures.
- Interface with various customers and assist Drilling Services leaders and internal drilling resources to facilitate field investigations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience working directly in a geologic, environmental, engineering, construction, or other geological-related field.
- Professional Geology (PG) license – a plus.
- Experience in field investigations utilizing various drilling methods, soil and rock logging, environmental sampling and testing methods, regulatory knowledge, and project budget management.
- Proficiency in the gINT Boring Log Program and flexible computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to work with limited supervision, a safety‑first mindset, customer focus, and conflict resolution skills.
- Work outdoors most of the time in varying weather conditions.
- Walking over rough, uneven terrain and standing up to 12 hours a day.
- Routinely lifting and carrying 40–50 lbs (field/laboratory samples and equipment).
- Maneuvering field equipment such as a loaded wheelbarrow on uneven ground around active construction sites.
