HDR is seeking a Site Civil Engineering Section Manager to join our Georgia Building Engineering Services Team in Atlanta. This senior leadership role involves managing and mentoring our Site Civil Design Group, overseeing workflow, staff development, quality control, and fostering a collaborative team environment. The manager will also serve as a technical lead on site development projects, coordinate with other disciplines, and oversee the development of construction drawings, specifications, and engineering calculations, including review of shop drawings during construction.
The role involves direct interaction with clients, project managers, market sector leads, and other HDR leaders, as well as supporting company policies.
Critical experience includes site development projects such as site layout, grading, storm drainage, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, and utility design (sanitary, gas, fire/domestic water, electrical/communication). Proficiency in Civil 3D and other civil design software is essential.
Permitting experience is also necessary, including researching regulatory requirements, developing plans within local permitting frameworks, coordinating with review agencies, and obtaining necessary permits for construction.
The individual will also be expected to:
- Build team expertise and capacity through recruitment, training, and development
- Lead and mentor civil staff
- Manage workflow, utilization, and staff development
- Serve as a technical project lead and coordinate across disciplines
- Engage with clients and internal stakeholders
- Support technical service development in site civil planning and design
- Prepare proposals, scope development, and cost estimates
- Travel regionally or nationally as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- MS or MSCE in Civil Engineering
- Minimum 10 years of site development and civil design experience
- PE license
- Experience with architectural/engineering or consulting firms
- Excellent communication, leadership, and planning skills
- Strong Civil 3D skills
- Knowledge of modeling software such as Hydraflow Storm Sewers, Hydro
CAD, Bentley Storm
CAD, etc. - Ability to lead and mentor team members
- Local candidates preferred
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent
- At least 10 years of experience
- Professional registration/license may be required
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to handle multiple projects
