We are seeking an expert-level Tunnel Engineer to be based in our Atlanta, Georgia office. The successful candidate will become part of Jacobs' tunnel engineering team working on planning, designing, and constructing tunnels and other underground structures. The successful candidate will contribute to tunnel project pursuits, working closely with the sales team. This position offers the opportunity to contribute as an expert on challenging design and construction issues in tunneling.

Jacobs' Atlanta tunnel group designs underground projects and supports construction. Recent projects involved analysis, design, and geotechnical site characterization for tunnels, shafts, and caverns.

Duties and Responsibilities

* Oversees or provides expert-level input on tunnel designs by experienced tunnel engineers.

* Oversees or provides expert-level input on project planning and design development including constructability reviews, risk assessment and management, cost analysis and estimating, project scheduling, and contractual documents.

* Provides oversight on analyses and quality control for evaluation and characterization of ground conditions and geotechnical parameters.

* Prepares technical reports and makes in-person presentations on findings and recommendations.

* Provides oversight of reviews of construction submittals and responses to Contractor correspondence.

* Provides quality control for design calculations, and drawings and specifications.

* Supports pursuits and proposals by providing recommendations for content, and presentations to prospective clients.

* Maintains effective communications with the engineering team and clients.

Here's what you'll need

* 20+ years of experience in tunnel and shaft design, including experience preparing engineering calculations, drawings, and specifications.

* Experience consulting on tunnel and shaft construction.

* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

* Strong communication skills, verbal and written.

* Ability to collaborate and work effectively with a team.

* Ability to travel for short-term assignments when required, including driving.

* PE (Professional Engineer) registration.

* Master's degree in civil, geological or mining engineering, focused on geotechnical engineering and excavation design.

Ideally, you'll also have

* Interest and experience mentoring engineers and geologists of all levels.

* Eagerness to contribute innovative ideas to project pursuits and solutions to clients.
