Test Engineer P&C 1 (Network Underground Services – Protection & Control)

Location: Atlanta, GA

Overview

The Network Underground Services (NUS) Test Engineer – Protection & Control (P&C) is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of Network Underground Systems across Georgia. This role involves hands‑on work with energized equipment up to 600

VAC in below‑grade, enclosed spaces, and requires strong technical expertise and commitment to safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform installation, maintenance, and repair of underground electrical systems.
  • Write and execute switching orders; utilize hot line tools for medium voltage circuit switching (4KV–25KV).
  • Support implementation and maintenance of SCADA system monitoring technologies and sump pump controllers.
  • Participate in on‑call rotation and respond to system emergencies and customer concerns.
  • Communicate effectively with high‑profile customers and internal teams to ensure service excellence.
  • Maintain compliance with safety standards and company policies.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical preferred)
  • OR Associate’s degree in a technical field (Electronics, Electrical, Maintenance Technology, etc.)
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong understanding of electrical system operations, distribution systems, and underground construction practices.
  • Familiarity with SCADA, RTU, PLC, DCS, and HMI systems preferred.
  • Ability to read electrical wiring diagrams and troubleshoot equipment.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and engineering software.
  • Excellent organizational, prioritization, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work outdoors in adverse conditions and statewide travel (including overnight stays, weekends, and holidays).
  • Self‑motivated, safety‑focused, and able to build strong relationships with customers and internal teams.
  • 24/7 on‑call availability (rotating schedule).
  • Paid overtime and statewide travel required, sometimes on short notice.
