Role OverviewThis pivotal position has been created in response to ongoing growth and the strategic expansion of their network services. As a key member of the team, you will play a vital role in supporting and enhancing wireless network operations, contributing to high-availability, scalable infrastructure, and operational excellence. Your expertise will directly influence the stability and performance of mission-critical wireless environments, making this a role with meaningful and visible impact.
Key Responsibilities- Lead planning, implementation, and ongoing management of wireless network components, including routers, switches, LAN controllers, and access points, ensuring minimal downtime during maintenance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues within large-scale Wi-Fi environments, leveraging logs, configuration data, and packet captures for effective diagnosis.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to influence design improvements, testing strategies, and operational procedures focused on reliability and scalability.
- Translate technical documentation into operational procedures, aligning with change management best practices.
- Monitor network capacity and performance metrics to develop and execute capacity enhancement plans.
- Assist with scheduled maintenance, including participation in on-call rotations and supporting system updates during designated windows.
- Create and update operational documentation to enable consistent and efficient support processes.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a network engineer specialising in wireless communications or related fields.
- Strong understanding of Wi-Fi standards and protocols, including IEEE standards, WPA2/3, EAP, 802.1x, RADIUS, and DIAMETER.
- Practical knowledge of IP networking, including TCP/IP, UDP, DHCP, DNS, MPLS, BGP, and ISIS routing.
- Experience with network security protocols and access provisioning.
- Familiarity with packet analysis tools and network management systems, including SNMP, syslog, and telemetry.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly.
- Experience in managing large-scale wireless networks for service providers.
- Working knowledge of APIs, automation tools such as Ansible, and scripting languages.
- Understanding of DOCSIS and PON technologies is advantageous.
