Construction Materials Testing Technician II at WSP, Atlanta, GA
OverviewWSP’s Engineered Construction team is growing, and we have opportunities for Construction Materials Testing Technicians to perform field inspections and observations for commercial, industrial, and transportation related construction projects. We are seeking experienced construction engineering inspectors with ICC, ACI and other certifications.
Responsibilities- Perform testing on general building sites and facilities
- Interpret project plans and specifications for compliance with project requirements
- Perform Erosion Control (NPDES) inspections
- Sample and test concrete according to ASTM and project specifications
- Sample and test masonry & grout according to ASTM and project specifications
- Perform soil density testing using nuclear gauge and sand cone in accordance with ASTM on site at commercial construction projects
- Perform foundation inspections for various shallow foundations following testing standards and project specifications
- Inspect reinforced concrete in accordance with ICC Special Inspections standards
- Prepare and submit written field reports summarizing daily activities, observations, density calculations and results
- Observe proof rolls, undercut operations, perform footing inspections with dynamic cone penetrometer, and inspect rebar
- Test and work in accordance with company safety policies
- Monitor work procedures for compliance with project specifications
- Interact with client representatives at project sites
- Perform analysis or calculations to check accuracy, applicability and reasonableness of testing data
- 5+ years of construction materials testing experience on commercial/industrial construction projects with emphasis on soils and concrete
- ACI Field Level I certification (concrete sampling and field testing)
- NPDES Red Card
- ICC Soils or equivalent
- ICC Reinforced Concrete or equivalent
- ICC Masonry or equivalent
- Troxler or equivalent certification
- Ability to evaluate soil subgrade prior to placement of fill and perform standard soil Proctor and moisture checks
- Ability to read and understand site grading drawings
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license and good driving history
- Reliability – must arrive at project sites on time
- Ability to prepare reports and documentation
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Basic knowledge of Excel
- Flexibility to work outside normal business hours as required
- Must pass physical, background check, and maintain a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company’s MVR policy
- Recent graduate with Associate’s or BS in Civil Engineering Technology or Construction Management
- Fluent in Spanish, Japanese, or Korean
- Working toward a BS in Civil Engineering or related field
- ICC Fire, ICC Bolting, ICC Steel
- Pre- or Post-Tensioned Concrete certification
- IBC Commercial Building Inspector certification
- Ability to stoop, kneel, and routinely lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Clean driving record and capability to be insured for company vehicles
- Ability to work in variable outdoor conditions, including extreme heat or cold
- Physical examination required to obtain medical clearance
