WORK LOCATION: Hybrid schedule, in‑office 3 days per week at the Sargent & Lundy office in Peachtree Corners, GA.
Piping Engineering & Analysis Synopsis- Evaluates piping systems per ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, B31.1, B31.7, and applicable codes.
- Specialty topics include vibration monitoring, hydraulic transients, thermal stratification, pipe rupture, wall thinning due to FAC/MIC, and flaw evaluations.
Provides senior‑level technical support by performing engineering tasks such as preparing and reviewing complex calculations, designs, and specifications. Monitors staff work to ensure requirements are met.
- Prepares and reviews complex calculations.
- Reviews simple system/structural designs and prepares complex system designs.
- Prepares documented design input for drawing production (P&IDs and Master Diagrams). Performs engineering review of drawings.
- Prepares and reviews equipment specifications and material specifications.
- Prepares bid evaluations and economic calculations. Solicits vendor data.
- Prepares simple reports/studies.
- Develops discipline project budgets, schedules, and work plans. Monitors own work to stay on budget and on schedule.
- Provides discipline input to simple proposals.
- Communicates effectively in writing and orally to project team members and managers. Presents technical information clearly in all deliverables.
- Prepares reports and deliverables that meet client requirements and summarizes meeting notes clearly and timely.
- BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Aerospace, or Structural/Civil Engineering from an ABET‑approved program with emphasis in solid mechanics, structural analysis, theory of elasticity, metallurgy, and finite element analysis.
- 5 or more years of relevant experience.
- Knowledge of ASME B31.1 and ASME B&PV Section III piping codes.
- Knowledge of the design, selection, and application of pipe supporting elements.
- Working knowledge of commercially available piping products.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- PE license.
- Ability to navigate a 3D CAD model.
- Experience with AutoPIPE or PIPESTRESS software.
- Knowledge of gas dynamics and hydraulic transients.
- Knowledge of pipe condition assessment.
- Experience with ANSYS Workbench and Mechanical ADP.
