We are seeking a skilled and reliable Switchgear & Transfer Switch Technician to join our industrial power generation team. This is a field-based position working with industrial diesel generators, providing advanced electrical diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance for switch gear systems and automatic transfer switches (ATS).
This is a home-daily role with excellent compensation and a fully equipped take-home service vehicle. If you’re an experienced technician looking to specialize in high-voltage, mission-critical power systems—this opportunity is for you.
Key Responsibilities- Troubleshoot, repair, test, and maintain switch gear, ATS units
, and related control systems associated with industrial diesel generators (up to 2MW). - Perform inspections and functional tests of automatic and manual transfer switches to ensure proper operation during outages and power events.
- Diagnose electrical faults, replace relays, PLCs, circuit boards, breakers, and communication interfaces as needed.
- Work with paralleling gear and generator control panels (Cummins, CAT, Kohler, Generac, MTU, ASCO, Eaton, etc.).
- Calibrate systems, run load bank tests, and support commissioning of new or upgraded switch gear systems.
- Document all work performed using laptop-based service systems; maintain clear and detailed reports.
- Communicate professionally with customers and internal teams to ensure clarity, efficiency, and quality.
- 3+ years of hands‑on experience with industrial switch gear and automatic transfer switches in diesel generator applications.
- Solid understanding of electrical schematics
, high‑voltage safety practices, and control wiring. - Experience with brands such as ASCO, Eaton, Cummins Power Command, CAT EMCP, Kohler Decision‑Maker
, and similar. - Familiarity with generator controls, PLCs, and ATS logic is highly preferred.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- Strong problem‑solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in the field and respond to emergency service calls as needed.
- $45+ per hour
