JOB DESCRIPTION
The Industrial Hygienist position is responsible for recognizing and evaluating potential occupational health hazards, for recommending and developing control measures that are designed to eliminate or mitigate potential for occupational illness, and to comply with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
Work Location, Schedule, and Travel RequirementsPosition will be based in Atlanta, Georgia but will involve statewide travel
This position will require a mix of both office and field work.
Must be willing to work outside of normal business hours.
Hybrid work schedule (both in-office and telecommute); currently four (4) days in-office/in-the-field and one (1) day telecommute (subject to future adjustment).
This position will require some travel (day and overnight, up to 50%) and the ability to work successfully in a remote/virtual environment, directly from customer locations, and from GPC HQ as needed.
Bachelor of Science degree or higher in industrial hygiene, public health, natural, or physical science strongly preferred
Master’s Degree is a plus
CIH, CHMM, or CSP preferred
Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience as an Industrial Hygienist
Good working knowledge of industrial hygiene principles and practices
Strong presentation skills required
Prior experience performing such practices as air sampling, noise measurements, and report writing
Provide comprehensive industrial hygiene support across all business units—including corporate offices, Transmission, Distribution, and Generation facilities—to ensure the protection of employee health and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Develop, implement, and maintain company-wide industrial hygiene programs addressing chemical, physical, and biological hazards, with emphasis on exposure prevention and control strategies.
Conduct and oversee exposure monitoring, risk assessments, and workplace evaluations to identify potential health hazards and recommend effective engineering, administrative, or PPE controls.
Interpret and apply federal, state, and local occupational health regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA, DOE) and ensure company policies and procedures align with current standards and best practices.
Serve as a subject matter expert to management, safety professionals, and field personnel, providing technical guidance and consultative support on occupational health issues and compliance strategies.
Develop and deliver industrial hygiene training and awareness programs to promote a culture of health and safety throughout the organization.
Participate in audits, incident investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the company’s overall occupational health performance.
Good working knowledge of OSHA rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
General knowledge of environmental laws and regulations that are inter-related with OSHA rules (SARA, TSCA, RCRA, NESHAPS)
Working knowledge of state-of-the-art personal protective equipment and engineering control measures
Must be highly motivated, self-driven, and capable of working independently with limited or no supervision.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
Must be able to communicate with all levels of the organization.
Ability to translate technical findings into practical workplace solutions.
