About the School of Aerospace Engineering

For more than two decades, the Daniel Guggenheim School of Aerospace Engineering has consistently ranked among the nation’s top 5 aerospace engineering programs, attracting aspiring engineers to pursue their academic journeys at the Atlanta campus. With an esteemed faculty of more than 40 tenured‑track professors and a thriving student body of over 2,000 individuals, the school is uniquely positioned to offer a comprehensive and hands‑on approach to research, scholarship, and education, spanning fixed‑wing aircraft, rotorcraft, and advanced space domains.

Position

Summary

Professors of the Practice are non‑tenure track faculty members whose specific focus is on teaching and instruction. This position includes teaching and student mentoring, with an emphasis on enhancing the education mission of the School.

Responsibilities
  • Teaching 2–3 courses per semester.
  • Student mentoring and teaching mission of the School.
  • Liaison between industry or government and the Institute to identify teaching and research opportunities that support public interest and societal needs.
  • May be expected (depending on circumstances of appointment) to generate financial resources to support and enhance the Institute programs in which the faculty member works.
  • Service on education committees.
  • Advising and mentoring undergraduate students.
Required Qualifications
  • Substantial bases of experience, normally at least ten (10) to fifteen (15) years, with a national/international reputation for excellence.
  • Rich and extensive backgrounds in fields and disciplines related to the school or college of appointment at the Institute.

  • The ability to mentor and assist students interested in pursuing graduate education.
  • The ability to design and teach curricula that are responsive to all students.

  • The ability to engage students in experiential learning activities and pedagogy that support student success.
  • The ability to engage in high‑impact practices that support deep learning for student success.
  • The ability to apply expertise in teaching, scholarship, and/or service to advance student success.
Preferred Qualifications

Ideal candidates will have evidence of or potential for exceptional course design and instruction, with emphasis on bringing their experience and passion into the classroom. Candidates are sought across the wide range of aerospace engineering disciplines including structures, fluids, thermodynamics, dynamics and controls. Expertise in computational and experimental methods is also valuable.
