Position: 2026 - 2027 ACCELERATED LITERACY MODEL SCHOOL MEDIA SPECIALIST - TOOMER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

ACCELERATED LITERACY MODEL SCHOOL POSITION SUMMARY

The Media Specialist works as a collaborator, change agent, and leader to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information; students are empowered to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information; to instill a love of learning in all students and ensure equitable access to information; and to collaborate with teachers to design and implement instruction, and assess student learning.

MINIMUM

REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION
  • Master's degree Library Science advanced degree in Instructional Technology and/or Education required.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSE
  • S5 Media Specialist certification or higher is required.
  • T5 or higher in a teaching field in addition to Media Specialist certification or S5 (or higher) in Instructional Technology in addition to Media Specialist certification is preferred.
  • Certificate of completion in the following literacy trainings preferred:
    • LETRS
    • Wilson Reading System
    • Fundations
WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Work experience gained through education and certification/license requirements.
  • Available for face-to-face instruction within the school building with students present.

Must be able to complete 200+ hours of Professional Learning each school year.

COMPENSATION:

Salary Grade: T4 Bachelor - T7 Doctorate. Salary Range:
Teacher. Work Year: 202 Days.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Ability to provide the leadership and expertise necessary to ensure that the school library media program is aligned with the mission, goals, and objectives of the school and the school district and is an integral component of the learning/instructional program. Strong knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite. Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication. Working knowledge of full SDLC. Understand and operate within PM principles.

Working knowledge of SharePoint 2010 functionality at an advanced level in addition to SharePoint Designer, Info Path, and Visual Studio. HTML, JavaScript, JQuery, CSS and site templates. List templates, Master Pages, Page Layouts, SharePoint web parts. Have in depth prior experience with custom branding SharePoint 2010 sites. Skilled in designing internal and external user interfaces that support device independent concepts and ideas including tablet and mobile technologies.

Demonstrable knowledge of UI/UX design standards for websites and be proficient in HCI (Human Computer Interaction) practices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Creates an environment where collaboration and creative problem solving thrive (Leader).
  • Serves as an essential member of the instructional and leadership teams to bring an ongoing commitment to the changing K-12 curriculum, innovative teaching, and staying current on best practices in teaching, learning, and assessment, and embracing and understanding the dynamic role that the integration of technology contributes to student learning (Leader).
  • Advocates for the school library program to include communication to stakeholders through the school website and newsletters (Leader).
  • Works with teachers and administrators to build and strengthen connections between student information and research needs, curricular content, learning outcomes, and information resources (Instructional Partner).
  • Provides and plans professional learning opportunities within the school and district (Instructional Partner).
  • Provides leadership and expertise in the selection, acquisition, evaluation, and organization of information resources and technologies in all formats, as well as expertise in the ethical use of information (Information Specialist).
  • Evaluates, promotes, and uses existing and emerging technologies to support teaching and learning, supplement school resources, connect the school with the global learning community, communicate with students and teachers, and provide 24/7 access to library services (Information Specialist).
  • Works collaboratively with members of the learning community to define the school based policies of the school library program, and to guide and direct all activities related to it (Program Administrator).
