This role is dedicated to advising, educating, and supporting families of students with disabilities within the Clarke County School District. The Parent Mentor serves as a key resource, helping families navigate the educational system and advocating for the needs and rights of their children to ensure they receive appropriate and effective educational support.
Minimum Requirements- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Clearance Certificate
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint
- Background Clearance
- Serves as a liaison and enhances communication between parents and school district staff.
- Assists parents with explanation of parental rights and the IEP process.
- Collects information needed to assist in determining parent needs in the district.
- Assists with parent training and follow-through as needed.
- Assists parents and students with disabilities who are suspended from school to intervene in ways that decrease the need for further disciplinary referrals at the school level.
- Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
The position requires approximately 10% sitting, 40% walking, and 50% standing. Vision, hearing, speech, upper body mobility, and strength requirements are listed above.
