Position SummaryThe Woodward Academy Upper School strives to help students fulfill their potential in every facet of their lives. This position involves teaching position for some combination of 9th-grade
US Government/Economics, 10th-grade
Modern World History, and 11th-grade
US History classes. This position will begin on August 1, 2026.
- Instructing students in subject content, along with reading and grading student-written work
- Demonstrating a high level of responsiveness to students needs including the implementation of differentiated teaching strategies
- Managing student behavior in a manner that optimizes the learning environment
- Maintain regular communication with students and their parents regarding progress
- Working cooperatively with other grade-level teachers to implement pre-designed course syllabi and final exams
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, demonstrating tact and diplomacy
- Ability to leverage technology, including but not limited to, Microsoft Office, library databases, and Smart Board
- A solid understanding of learning challenges as well as the accommodations and differentiated learning techniques to support such
- Strong organizational and classroom management skills
- Undergraduate degree in History, Political Science or secondary Social Studies Education from an accredited institution of higher learning; master’s degree in History or Education preferred
- 2+ years of successful teaching high school Social Studies preferred
- Independent school experience preferred, but not required
The Teacher, Upper School Social Studies position is an exempt, 10-month position.
