DescriptionAs a Pre‑k assistant teacher, you will play a crucial role in shaping the educational and social development of children aged 4‑5 years diagnosed with autism as well as children with typical developmental trajectories. Your primary responsibility is to support the lead teacher in creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment that promotes cognitive, emotional, physical, and social growth for all children.
You will work with the lead teacher to implement curriculum, including the Frogstreet curriculum, and facilitate learning activities. You will comply with state, university, and practice policies and procedures and perform related responsibilities as required.
- Under direct supervision, conduct day‑to‑day educational activities for children ages 12 months to 5 years of age, including children with and without autism spectrum disorder in an inclusive preschool classroom.
- Provide educational activities and support to promote language, social, and adaptive behavior development.
- Support activity preparation, set‑up, and clean‑up as well as classroom environmental set‑up.
- Monitor child activity and behavior within the classroom.
- Must have reliable transportation and pass background check.
- Ability to work on site between the hours of 7:30 am‑5:30 pm Monday‑Friday.
- Organize and conduct day‑to‑day educational activities for children ages 12 mo to 5 years in an inclusive classroom.
- Follow appropriate curriculum for the classroom.
- Help the lead teacher provide educational activities and support to promote language, social, and adaptive behavior development.
- Support the lead teacher in implementing activities, preparation, set‑up, and clean‑up as well as classroom environmental set‑up.
- Monitor child activity and behavior within the classroom.
- Ensure compliance with state, university, and practice policies and procedures for all staff.
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Priority will be given to completion of one year of college coursework toward a degree in early childhood education, special education, psychology, human development, or related field.
- May pursue Early Childhood Education degree/credential/certificate within first year of hire.
- Must be at least 18 years old, have reliable transportation, and pass a background check.
- At least one year of experience working with individuals with autism or other developmental disabilities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Psychology, Special Education, Behavioral Science, or related field preferred.
- Associate degree with ECE major.
- Montessori diploma from a Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE) Program.
- Technical College Diploma (TCD) with ECE major.
- Technical Certificate of Credit (TCC) with ECE major.
Position tasks are required to be performed in‑person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
