About Us

The University System of Georgia (USG) is comprised of 26 higher education institutions as well as the University System Office (USO). Within the USO, our administrative operations are primarily housed in the Trinity Washington Building located in downtown Atlanta. Our Information Technology Services (ITS) division is located in Athens. The Georgia Film Academy (GFA) is a unit of USG that leads and advances the entertainment arts industry and its workforce in Georgia.

The GFA supports the Georgia Film Consortium (GFC), a state-wide collaboration of USG, TCSG, and independent institutions offering professional courses in film, television, digital entertainment, Esports, and game development. It promotes rigorous professional training and support opportunities for film and television production craft internships, placement in creative industries, apprenticeships, and jobs, and aims to build a permanent and sustainable industry in Georgia.

Responsibilities
  • Teach Production pathway courses on a semesterly basis.
  • Manage courses through systematic use of syllabi and online student learning management system (D2L).
  • Keep accurate records of students' class performance, attendance, and grades; evaluate students for consideration for internship program.
  • Submit attendance and grade reporting as required per institutional deadlines.
  • Teach, train, advise and mentor students to help them develop skills necessary to join the film industry workforce in Georgia.
  • Handle and complete various administrative responsibilities associated with class management.
  • Communicate effectively with students, instructors, and staff.
  • Attend and participate in All-Instructor Conference at the start of each semester.
Required Qualifications
  • A combination of:
  • Bachelor's degree in the qualifying field and ten or more years widely recognized industry work experience on professional Feature Film/TV sets.
  • Significant recognized experience in the film industry (ten or more years) related to course content.
  • Specialized training in course content.
  • Specialized certification in course content.
  • Evidence of deep, wide-ranging knowledge in a variety of on-set film and television production crafts in current standard industry practices.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Suite, PowerPoint, working with laptop and projector-basic knowledge. Familiarity with online learning management systems a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Preferred, but not required:
  • Experience as a key, senior assistant "best boy", or department head
  • Teaching experience
  • Membership in course content-related guild or trade union
  • Instructors' credentials, credits, and work experience must be recognized and respected by industry

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Knowledge sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse functions of delivering instruction in higher education:
  • Skill in communication and presentation of instruction.
  • Organizational skills and ability to maintain accurate records.
  • In-depth expertise in at least one of the following crafts and/or specialty areas:
    Set Construction/Art Department;
    Lighting/Electric;
    Grip/Rigging;
    Camera;
    Hair/Make-up, including special effects;
    Directing or Producing for Film & TV.
  • Knowledge, understanding and/or experience to train students in the following filmmaking crafts and concepts:
  • The On-Set production processes (Locations and Stage)
  • Electric/Lighting (basic equipment and procedures)
  • Grip/Rigging (basic equipment, dolly operation, tripods and track)
  • Camera (basic equipment and procedures)
  • Sound (boom operation and general concepts of recording)
  • Art Department (fundamentals of set decorator, set dressing and props)
  • Camera (general operation, shot composition, 2nd Assistant Camera)
  • Locations (management, logistics, paperwork, scouting)
  • On-set and Office Production Assistant (work ethics, protocols, paperwork, tasks, etc.)
  • Hair, Make-up, Wardrobe (general concepts, workflow, on-set procedures)
  • General Set Etiquette and Procedures (terminology, general safety, walkie protocol, call sheets, start paperwork, timecards, typical shooting day, wrap, etc.)
