About the Department

The Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology at Georgia State University s Andrew Young School of Policy Studies is nationally recognized for its innovative research, teaching, and service in criminology, criminal justice, and related policy areas. Located in downtown Atlanta, the department leverages its proximity to major justice agencies and research institutions to engage with pressing local and national issues in crime and justice policy.

Offering degrees at the bachelor s, master s, and doctoral levels, as well as minors in Criminal Justice and Digital Criminology, the department prepares students to advance the public good through evidence-based practice and leadership. Faculty are involved in cutting-edge research and public service initiatives, working closely with federal, state, and local partners, and leading major centers such as the Evidence-Based Cybersecurity Research Group and the Leadership Development Institute of Georgia.

The department also houses two peer-reviewed journals, including Criminal Justice Review and International Criminal Justice Review, and plays a key role in university-wide research collaborations and digital learning initiatives, ensuring that students and scholars alike are equipped to shape the future of justice policy and practice. The Department serves as the home for the Evidence-Based Cyber Security Group ((Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).), which was formed in collaboration with Georgia State s Department of Computer Science and Department of Computer Information Systems.

This is a vibrant interdisciplinary community composed of over 50 faculty, staff, and students at Georgia State, as well as another 20 affiliated faculty from other academic institutions and industry. The preferred candidate will be able to contribute to the core mission of the Evidence-Based Cyber Security Group.

Position Description

The Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology at Georgia State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning August 2026. The primary area of expertise is in cybercrime and/or cybersecurity. The position is a nine-month appointment with annual review, in-person and online teaching responsibilities, and the possibility of summer teaching. This position is located on the Atlanta campus of Georgia State University and requires in-person, on campus-based work.

The Andrew Young School maintains a flexible work environment.

Required Education

A Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a substantively relevant field of study is required (ABDs may apply, but the degree must be in hand by the start of employment). A J.D. or DCJ degree alone is not sufficient for this position.

Preferred Qualifications /Experience

University teaching experience and a demonstrated record of research and publication are preferred.
