Substitute Teacher, Short Term

Summary

Performs related duties of a classroom teacher to provide continuity in the day‑to‑day responsibilities during the absence of the regular employee.

Note:

Substitute employees are employed on an as needed, on‑call, day‑to‑day basis and are not guaranteed work on a regular basis. There are no benefits associated with substitute employment.

• Manages classroom and provides instructions according to plans as prepared by the classroom teacher.
• Provides classroom environment which promotes active learning in the subject area.
• Accounts for student attendance and punctuality.
• Uses appropriate behavior management strategies.
• Follows all county, state, and federal policies and procedures.
• Follows professional ethics in all work‑related activities.
• Avoids behaviors which detract from staff morale.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator.

High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

None required.

Teaching Certification preferred.

None required; experience working with children preferred.

• Proven communication and instructional strategies.
• Classroom management skills.
• Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing.
• Excellent organizational skills.

Classroom environment.

• Ability Balk to lift and carry 30–50 pounds with assistance.
• Ability to push or pull a maximum of 50 pounds.
• May require stooping or crouching.
