Purpose of Classification: The purpose of this job is to oversee summer camp youth, under the direction of the facility manager; managing camp program operations, administration, facilities, and recreational programs for campers with mild to moderate disabilities including Physical, Emotional, Down syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Attention Deficits and Learning Disabilities in an attempt to enhance their development through Arts & Crafts enrichment activities.
For seven weeks, we work with youth ages 5 – 18 to promote social, cultural and historical awareness through an activity‑based curriculum.
Responsibilities
- Develop, plan, and implement camp activities with an Arts & Crafts focus (Drawing, Tapestry art, Painting, Weaving, Felt‑Making, Woodcraft, Animation, Papercraft, Jewelry, etc.).
- Create impromptu and innovative lesson plans, develop curriculum and strategies.
- Supervise campers during activities and daily camp operations.
- Collaborate with staff to establish and maintain a supportive and structured environment.
- Demonstrate human relation skills when dealing with officials, administration, employees, parents, guests or visitors.
- Promote compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
- Identify and meet camper needs daily.
- Plan and implement educational, cultural and social enrichment activities for campers.
- Develop camp lesson plans and implement lessons.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- One year of college education.
- Maintain or have graduated with at least a 2.5 GPA.
- Have or be able to attain a valid CPR and First Aid certification.
- Pass a background check for criminal and child protective findings.
- Pass a drug screening.
Other Qualifications
- Arts & Craft experience—professional, avid hobbyist, or college/graduate student with experience in Drawing, Tapestry art, Painting, Weaving, Felt‑Making, Woodcraft, Animation, Papercraft, Jewelry, etc.
- Education, arts major/minors with a strong interest in hands‑on learning.
Additional Information
- City of Atlanta required training June 1‑5, 2026.
- Summer staff will be required to work an 8‑hour shift Monday‑Friday from June 8‑July 24, 2026; vacation requests during this time will not be approved.
- All summer staff must be actively involved with campers during swim times and wear a bathing suit (one‑piece for females, swimming trunks with lining for males). Staff is not required to know how to swim or teach swim lessons.
