the Department

The department has nine graduate programs, including three doctoral programs (Counseling Psychology, Counselor Education and Practice, and School Psychology) and three CACREP master's programs (Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling, and School Counseling), and offers Ed.S. degrees in both School Counseling and School Psychology. Our mission is to advance the fields of counseling and psychology by promoting rigorous research, applying evidence-based treatments, and advocating for effective social policies.

Position Description

The Department of Counseling and Psychological Services (CPS) within the College of Education and Human Development at Georgia State University (GSU) invites applications for the position of Department Chair and Professor starting July 2026. The ideal candidate should have a strong academic record and experience in leadership and administration, with a focus on supporting student, faculty, and staff success.

Required Experience
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in a tenure-track faculty position.
  • Current rank of tenured associate or full professor.
  • University/college service and leadership experience.
  • Experience in managing budgets and financial resources.
Required Education

Doctoral degree in counseling psychology, counselor education, school psychology, or related area, from an accredited program.

Preferred Qualifications /Experience
  • Current rank of tenured full professor and eligibility for tenure and full professor rank erience as a department chair, associate chair, or similar administrative position.
