Position Overview

Physician Assistant Director of Curriculum Innovation and Evaluation

This in-person position reports to the Program Director and is responsible for overseeing curriculum development and implementation, teaching methodologies, and data management, analysis, and reporting to comply with ARC-PA, PAEA, and regional accreditation standards. The Director of Curriculum Innovation and Evaluation is a key member of the leadership team supporting curricular, assessment, and instructional aspects of the Physician Assistant Program. Initial duties include ongoing preparation for ARC-PA provisional accreditation site visits.

The role includes teaching, scholarship, academic advising, service, admissions, and professional activities. This is a non-tenure track position, eligible for multi-year appointment. The Director operates within MSM’s framework of lifelong learning through innovative teaching, learner-centered curricula, collaborative scholarship, and clinical excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Support program director with accreditation documentation and problem-solving related to the didactic and clinical curriculum.
  • Identify and support the implementation of innovative medical education pedagogies and methodologies.
  • Review, revise, and assist in the development of programmatic instruments including reports and surveys.
  • Assist in developing a semester-by-semester ongoing analysis of outcome assessment for core didactic and clinical courses in concert with MSM Office of Educational Outcomes and core PA didactic faculty.
  • Assist in the implementation, review and evaluation of ongoing curriculum evaluation to maintain program expectations and support accreditation compliance.
  • Assist in a comprehensive evaluation process for the PA program, ensuring valid and reliable measures to assess student achievement of program objectives/competencies, course reviews, faculty teaching and programmatic effectiveness.
  • Obtain and utilize data from internal and external benchmarking, research findings and outcomes data.
  • Assist in admission, success, remediation, and retention of PA students during the didactic and clinical training.
  • Teach, evaluate, and advise didactic and clinical PA students.
  • Serve on committees related to education and curriculum and act as a resource to other committees as necessary.
  • Engage regularly with students or student representatives to provide a participatory forum for educational issues and ongoing feedback.
  • Monitor and report regional, national and international trends in PA education.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the program director or designee.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from an ARC-PA accredited physician assistant program.
  • Master’s degree or higher (doctorate preferred).
  • Current NCCPA certification and eligible for licensure in Georgia.
  • Demonstrated commitment to MSM’s mission to lead the creation and advancement of health equity.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in complex interdisciplinary and interprofessional settings.
  • Ability to engage, support and lead diverse groups.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in clinical or classroom instruction.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a physician assistant.
  • Expertise in pedagogy, learning and assessment, and knowledge of current trends in PA education.
  • Proven success in working with faculty, administrators, students and staff within a higher education setting.
  • Passion for and commitment to PA education to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Non-PA Faculty Candidates:
    In lieu of PA teaching experience and PA certification, candidates must demonstrate clinical or classroom teaching in the specified field of study.
