Position Summary
The Physician - Urgent Care plays a critical role in delivering timely and effective medical care to patients presenting with acute illnesses and injuries that require immediate attention but are not life‑threatening emergencies. This position demands a comprehensive approach to patient evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment within a fast‑paced urgent care setting, ensuring high‑quality care and patient satisfaction. The physician will collaborate closely with nursing staff, administrative personnel, and other healthcare providers to facilitate seamless patient flow and continuity of care.
Additionally, the role involves educating patients on their conditions, preventive health measures, and appropriate follow‑up care to promote overall community health. Ultimately, the physician’s expertise and decision‑making directly impact patient outcomes and the operational success of the urgent care facility.
- Conducts complete history and physical examination of adult patients to understand their symptoms and health concerns.
- Diagnose and treat acute illnesses, such as bacterial and viral infections, as well as chronic diseases and conditions, such as hypertension, heart disease, or diabetes.
- Provides health and wellness advice to patients, including diet, physical activity, hygiene, and disease prevention.
- Provides support and advice to patients receiving long‑term care.
- Works in collaboration with other healthcare professionals including nurses, mid‑level practitioners, social workers, and medical assistants as part of a team approach to meet the inter‑related needs of families and individuals under care.
- Provides assistance and consultative services to other mid‑level practitioners as required on difficult or problematic cases to ascertain the best methodology to be employed.
- Teaches and trains staff, family and individuals on specific problems as well as the preventative aspects of healthful living.
- Participates in team conferences as part of an innovative and educational program.
- Prescribes or administers medication, therapy, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury.
- Explains procedures and discusses test results or prescribed treatments with patients.
- Maintains detailed chart notes of patients, including comments, tests, and/or treatments prescribed, and test results.
- Refers patients to other medical specialists, when necessary.
- Monitors patients’ conditions and progress, and re-evaluates treatments, as necessary.
- Immunizes patients against preventable diseases.
- Participates in ensuring quality medical care is given to patients by attending, participating in quality assurance, departmental and Providers meetings.
- Provides on-call (telephone) coverage for Health Center patients on a rotational basis.
- Must be available at all times when serving as the on-call physician.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
- Has training in all areas of Internal Medicine.
- Has excellent communication skills and can empathize with patients.
- Has exceptional attention to detail.
- Has outstanding research and analytical skills.
- Has ability to direct and supervise staff.
- M.D. degree from an accredited Medical School.
- Board Certification in Internal Medicine.
- Must hold current Georgia Medical license.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
