Job Title: SENIOR CONTENT EDITOR

Job Summary

We are seeking a seasoned Senior Content Editor to enhance our storytelling impact and broaden our audience reach. The ideal candidate will transform diverse story components into engaging narratives that align with CARE's mission to save lives, defeat poverty, and achieve social justice. This role requires a strategic thinker to create compelling content across platforms—including digital, print, and social—to reach CARE’s core audiences and beyond.

You will work from concept to final delivery, collaborating with writers, designers, and other team members to craft timely, relevant, and impactful stories. Your editorial eye will ensure all content meets our clarity, coherence, and engagement standards to effectively convey the organization’s messages and values.

You will also help manage our email newsletters, curating content to captivate subscribers and drive engagement. You will select and edit stories, optimize subject lines, layouts, and calls-to-action to boost open and click-through rates. You will use data to refine our content strategy and convert web traffic into a loyal, dedicated audience.

Responsibilities
  • Editing
    • Editing and proofreading:
      Edit and proofread content to ensure accuracy, grammar, spelling and punctuation, and adherence to style guidelines. Collaborate with team members to review and improve each other's work.
    • Brand voice and consistency:
      Maintain and uphold the brand’s voice, ensuring consistency across all communication channels and audiences.
    • Ethical guidelines:
      Ensure all CARE stories follow ethical storytelling guidelines.
  • Content Management
    • Content creation:
      Develop and edit high-quality narrative content and Associated Press (AP) style stories that showcase CARE programs and campaigns.
    • Newsletter management:
      Oversee the creation and distribution of email newsletters, ensuring content is engaging, aligns with strategic goals, and reaches target audiences.
  • Analytics Management
    • Utilize Google Analytics and other third-party data tools to analyze content performance, making data-driven decisions to increase traffic and audience engagement.
    • Contribute data, insights and learnings to overall reporting for campaigns.
  • Collaboration and Team Building
    • Work closely with the media, fundraising, and digital teams to produce cohesive and impactful content.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
  • Proficient in AP style writing.
  • Proficient in Word Press.
  • Strong narrative storytelling ability.
  • Experience with email marketing platforms and newsletter production.
  • Proficient in using Google Analytics and similar analytics tools.
  • Excellent organizational and cross-departmental collaboration skills.
  • Strong management of creative processes.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years in content creation or editing, preferably in a non-profit or news organization.
  • Dedicated to humanitarian issues, outcome-oriented, proactive, and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changes in deadlines or priorities.
