Overview

Job Title: Summer Camp counselor (seasonal)

Department: Education

Reports to: Public Program Manager

Dates: May 20th - August 7, 2026

Hours: Monday - Friday, 40 hours/week

Job Summary

The Fernbank Summer Camp Counselors lead all program instruction and supervision of campers, grades K-6. Counselors act as positive role models, encouraging them to grow and learn through indoor and outdoor educational activities. Counselors are enthusiastic and safety-conscious caregivers for each of their campers.

Responsibilities
  • Leads crafts, games, and learning activities for groups of campers
  • Provides behavioral supervision and correction to campers as needed, bringing in senior staff as needed
  • Provides camper supervision during pre and/or aftercare
  • Communicates daily with camp parents as needed
  • Records and reports any incidents during the camp day
  • Prepares, sets up, breaks down camp spaces for daily activities
  • Sets up and breaks down camp spaces at the beginning and end of the season
  • Maintains high level of cleanliness in camp spaces
  • Attends required counselor training including CPR/AED/First Aid training
  • Acts respectfully and responsibly and serves as a good role model to campers
  • Additional duties as need to ensure a smooth camp program
Preferred Experience
  • Previous childcare and child education experience required
  • Background in STEAM field or education
  • Previous customer service experience
Skills And Attributes
  • Must be available weekly between May 20th and July August 7 for full 10.5 weeks
  • Must be at least ----18 years old
  • Must pass a background check before hire
  • Must enjoy working with children between the ages of 5 and 13
  • Interest in education and STEAM fields
  • Able to sit, stand, and walk for up to 9 hours per day
  • Comfortable working daily in a consistently high-energy environment
  • Flexibility and a willingness to help wherever needed
  • Energetic and creative, with good problem-solving abilities
  • Able to learn quickly and deliver information in front of an audience
